Day 6: Blossoms and Butterflies, My first attempt at Broderie Perse, 2011, Germantown, Maryland

I had two things on my bucket list:  To attend Elly Sienkiewicz’s Applique Academy in Williamsburg and to learn the applique technique of Broderie Perse.  The winter of 2011 I was able to check off both things.  I spent a delightful week with Judy Severson learning Broderie Perse and enjoying the academy activities. Judy is an awesome teacher and I have had the privilege of taking her workshop at several academies since then.

This quilt is a result of that first workshop. The theme fabric was the Hoffman Challenge fabric for that year and I used additional coordinating fabric to finish out the quilt.  I also added French knots and outline embroidery to distinguish the smaller flowers, butterflies and border.
